Thank you for your interest in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, National University of Singapore. Whether you are from Singapore, from elsewhere in the region or indeed anywhere in the world, we believe we offer something special: an exciting 21st century Asian context in which we train and educate instrumentalists and composers to take advantage of professional and artistic opportunities anywhere on the planet.
Singapore is a vibrant and ambitious multi-cultural city, constantly outward-looking (both within Asia and to the rest of the world) and surrounded by fascinating and diverse cultural traditions. Like Singapore, the Conservatory’s interactions are global. Since its founding in 2001, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music has enjoyed a close mentor relationship with the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, an association which has just been renewed for a further five years.
With only 200 students, an international faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, our conservatory is quite distinctive. Within this environment, each student is able to make the most of these critical years of musical and artistic development. At present, all students (from a total of 14 countries) have had the opportunity to receive full-tuition scholarships and maintenance support. Although only in our fifth year, you will see in the ensuing pages that the quality of student achievement is already distinctive, the programmes are well grounded and the facilities and student environment are ideal for creativity and intellectual development.
Building on our distinctive Peabody relationship, the Conservatory is now developing other connections and projects with conservatories in Europe and Australia. The National University of Singapore is recognised as one of the world’s leading universities and the learning opportunities and academic environment it provides enhances the students’ overall learning experience.
So if you share high our ambitions for excellence, if you desire artistic and educational support which is uncompromisingly student-centred and individually tailored and if you value an environment which is comfortable, contemporary and international, we trust you will enjoy finding out more about us!
Best Wishes,
Bernard Lanskey
