Ho Chee Kong
Composition
Ho Chee Kong holds the Doctor of Musical Arts from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, USA.
As a composer, Ho Chee Kong has received numerous awards and commissions for works from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, National Arts Council, National University of Singapore, Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Singapore Philharmonic Chorus, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and the Huqin Quartet, among others. His works have been performed at Arts Festivals in Singapore as well as overseas in Australia, Canada, Greece, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, UK, and USA. In addition to traditional mediums, Ho Chee Kong’s compositions include works for the electronic-acoustic and computer mediums. He is also involved in research on issues related to music in modern society, music and organisation, and music in multi-media productions.
Ho Chee Kong has been invited to serve on committees with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, National Arts Council and the Ministry of Education. Recently, he was elected to the Board of the International Computer Music Association as Vice-President and Regional Director for Asia/Oceana. In 2003, he was the Chairman of the organizing committee for the 29th International Computer Music Conference held at the National University of Singapore. Other appointments include being the Composer-in-residence with the Singapore Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and music advisor to the Huqin Quartet, the first permanent ensemble of its kind in Asia.
