Lu Bingxia and Wu Daidai, with their teacher Qin Li-Wei at the Adelaide International Cello Festival
Two of our first-year students, Lu Bingxia and Wu Daidai, were given the opportunity to perform in the inaugural Adelaide International Cello Festival held from 11 to 20 April 2008. A review from The Adelaide Now newspaper commended, "The most extensive festival devoted to a single instrument in Adelaide’s history kicked off in Elder Hall on Friday with two rising stars from the Singapore Conservatory."
The festival celebrates the cello, its rich repertoire and also the art of cello-making. It was intended to involve cellists of all levels of experience, young and old, professionals and amateurs. It also features recitals and masterclasses by international celebrities including Ralph Kirshbaum and Qin Li-Wei, in addition to rapidly rising stars such as Germany’s Nicolas Altstaedt and Adelaide’s own Twin Cellists, Pei-Jee and Pei-Sian Ng. World premieres by Australia’s Matthew Hindson and Estonian composer Tonu Korvits were also featured in the opening concert with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor Arvo Volmer.
