Yong Siew Toh Conservatory alumnus Wang Wei won the 2008 New England Conservatory (NEC) Woodwind and Brass Concerto Competition. Currently a Graduate Diploma student of Douglas Yeo, he has been invited to play Daniel Schnyder's subZERO - Concerto for Bass Trombone with the NEC Sinfonietta, conducted by John Page on 11 February 2009 at the NEC Jordan Hall.

During his undergraduate years, Wang Wei studied with Allen Meek, an NEC alumnus and Principal Trombonist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), and Shannon Pittaway, SSO’s Assistant Principal Bass Trombonist. He was placed third in the 2005/2006 Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 4th Jeju International Brass Competition in Korea. He was part of the first graduating class and graduated with a Second Class Honours (Upper) in Trombone Performance.

Wang Wei is currently a member of the NEC Philharmonia Orchestra and the NEC Wind Ensemble. He has appeared with the Boston Pops Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, SSO, China National Symphony Orchestra, amongst others. In the chamber music field, he is a member of a Boston-based chamber group called “Frequency Band”, and in December 2008, played on the group's “Phoenix" CD which is released in Spring 2009. He is also a member of the Artus Brass Quintet, the Honors Brass Quintet in NEC. As a solo musician, Wang Wei has given many recitals in several cities in China, Singapore and the United States. Wang Wei will be part of a bass trombone fellowship in the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra this summer 2009. He has performed in masterclasses with renowned musicians including John Rojak, Michael Mulcahy, Albert Zuijderduin, Irvin L. Wagner and Gilles Millière.
