GEK 1054 Music in the Global Context (4MC)

Module Descriptus:
This module provides a cross-cultural introduction to music both as an art and as a human, socio-cultural phenomenon. Through lectures, reading and listening assignments, and actually playing different styles of music, students will learn how music works, why people listen to and make music, what its roles are in a society, and how these things vary in different cultures. The module introduces a variety of musical styles and cultures that represent an enormous wealth of human experience. At the end of the course the students will have access to a much wider variety of music to listen to, participate in, enjoy, and understand.
MUA1113: Desktop Music Production (2MC)

Module Descriptus:
Students will programme synthesizers and samplers and use effects processors, mixers, drum machines and sequencers while learning the principles of sound design and music production. Projects will include creating original sounds and compositions in a variety of styles.
MUA 3210 Chamber Singers I (2MC)
(open to all students)

Module Descriptus:
This course allow students to learn the fundamentals of vocal production and choral techinique through participation in a vocal performance ensemble. Students will participate in regular rehearsals, and will learn and perform choral music with an emphasis on Renaissance and Twentieth-century music. Through this course, students will gain knowledge of diverse repertoire, composers, genres, styles and period performance practices. They will also learn fundamentals of vocal production and choral technique and will experience working together in a unique team ensemble.
Students to note that they will be preallocated the module if they successfully
undergo an audition conducted at YSTCM.

4 August (Tuesday) (9.30-12.30 and 1.30-5.30pm) at Dr Katherine Wallace’s office at
YSTCM, 3RD floor.
